From all corners of the Hear and Say community came an incredible show of dedication to opening worlds for babies born deaf, with the staggering success of the Hear and Say: Hear to Stay Giving Day.

Whether through generous donations or helping to spread awareness across the country, 28 May saw individuals, families, community groups and businesses truly come from far and wide to lend their support, many from Hear and Say’s earliest days.

The official close of the 24-hour period saw $233,928 raised – an extraordinary figure which Hear and Say’s Chief Executive Officer, Chris McCarthy said would tangibly change the lives of children and families impacted by hearing loss.

“Hear and Say is determined to be here to stay for the many children, families and communities we currently support – as well as those babies not yet born who will one day need our help,” said Chris.

“Thanks to the incredible generosity of so many through the Giving Day, we will continue to ensure that children born deaf or hard of hearing aren’t left behind and can go on to reach their lifelong goals.”

With the donation page remaining open for tax-deductible gifts until 30 June 2020, the fundraising tally – and the heart-warming comments left by donors – continues to grow.

Hear and Say mum, Dianna said she was immensely touched by the support shown for the Giving Day, particularly by many of their own family and friends. Posting on her Instagram following the campaign, Dianna said:

“My mind is blown by the names I saw on the list [of donors on the webpage] and also all the people who I know donated anonymously. I really struggle with fundraising… it is tricky with deafness because it isn’t life threatening – but the solutions are life changing. The kids who go through Hear and Say get to be kids.”

Donations made across the official Giving Day period were also matched dollar-for-dollar, thanks to the generosity of our Matched Giving Donors, including:
