Before commencing speech pathology for children, the first step is to complete a comprehensive speech and language assessment which will establish your child’s developmental level and detail how well they communicate and interact with those around them.

Each families referral pathway is different. If your child is born with hearing loss, you may be referred to our Early Intervention program via your Family Support Facilitator. If your child is having possible speech and language delays, you may be referred to us via your GP or teacher. You can also self-refer at any time if you have any concerns.

All of Hear and Say’s speech pathology appointments are individually tailored to your child’s needs by our qualified speech pathologists.
Speech therapy is provided for children who are having difficulties with their communication and speech and language development. Before starting speech therapy, our team will undertake a speech and language assessment to establish your child’s current developmental level and outline how they’re interacting and communicating with the people around them.
Whilst you don’t need a referral for speech therapy, you can get a Team Care Plan or a GP Management Plan (GPMP) to access some Medicare rebates. If you have private health, access to extras cover might also be an option.

The cost of speech therapy ranges and is largely dependent on the length and number of sessions required.
