With over 50 years working as a cabinetmaker under his belt, 83-year-old Brian is enjoying an active retirement spending time with his family, which includes his son, daughter, five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Brian and his wife of 61 years, Daphne, have lived at the Aveo Springfield retirement village since 2017, and it was here that Brian first learnt of Hear and Say’s Adult Hearing program.
I had a hearing test elsewhere about 10 years ago, and as my results were borderline at the time I did nothing about it,” said Brian.
“Hear and Say ran an information session for Aveo Springfield residents providing insights about hearing health, so I decided to have another hearing test at their clinic on the premises – it was very convenient.”
The information hit home, for Brian soon discovered he was part of the one in every two people over the age of 60 living with a hearing loss (Hearing Care Industry Association, 2017).
Several months have now passed since Brian got his hearing aids, and he noted he was “very pleased with the result”.
“During the three appointments I have had with my audiologist, they taught me how to get the best I can out of my hearing aids, and recommended that consistent use is the key to gaining the greatest benefit – the whole experience has been informative and very enjoyable,” said Brian.
“I had heard many stories from others who had hearing aids and didn’t wear them, but Hear and Say has taken the time to work with me to supply something that was suitable for me and my lifestyle.”
Bookings through Hear and Say’s Springfield Centre are by appointment only, and can be made by calling (07) 3850 2111 or emailing mail@hearandsay.com.au.
