Retired mining engineer, Kevin had never before considered that he may have an issue with his hearing.

At the age of 82, Kevin had an active lifestyle and felt that, “if only people would stop mumbling and speak clearly, I could easily understand them”.

Kevin joked that his family evidently felt otherwise, as it was his son who sent him a notice advising that Hear and Say was establishing an Adult Hearing program late last year.

“This caught my attention because I was already well aware of the fantastic work that Hear and Say was doing with children with hearing problems,” said Kevin.

“I thought, ‘Why not?’ and booked an appointment for a hearing assessment – and sure enough, it showed that I had significant hearing loss in both ears.”

Kevin was recommended a pair of hearing aids suited to his individual needs, and having had his fitting several months ago, said the change was remarkable.

“I can now understand what people are saying, which makes a real difference in being an active member of the community and staying involved in the hobbies I enjoy, such as researching family history, and keeping up with my 33 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren,” said Kevin.

“There are other clever features to the hearing aids as well, such as Bluetooth streaming for phone calls and media, and the speech-in-noise technology for when I’m in group conversations or social situations.

“I am very impressed by the service provided by Hear and Say – they have lived up to their reputation!”
