A chat with friends and the scent of freshly baked biscuits would likely score highly on many people’s list of favourite things, and for Sunshine Coast teen, Isaac, his new business venture has him surrounded by both.

After graduating high school at the end of 2019, the budding entrepreneur recently started a business called Isaac’s Sweet Treats, which sees him pumping out upwards of 800 biscuits in a day – a number which would make others crumble but leaves Isaac unphased.“Isaac makes up the dough and cookies with his support worker, Greg, and loves making deliveries to his customers – collecting cash and praise along the way!” said Isaac’s mum, Kylie.

The youngest of three boys, Isaac was born with Down syndrome, and his family has been part of the Hear and Say community since 2006 when his hearing loss was diagnosed. Isaac has attended listening and spoken language therapy sessions at the Sunshine Coast Centre, and continues to access Hear and Say’s Audiology program for support with his middle ear implant system, known as a Vibrant Soundbridge.

“Isaac was the first young person in Australia to receive Vibrant Soundbridge implants, which was life-changing for him as he enjoys a chat with many people, and now even more so through his new business,” said Kylie.

“There is no such thing as a stranger to Isaac – just a friend he is yet to meet!”
